PLEASE, Tell me WHY a Windows RT Tablet should run Windows Legacy Applications !!

I'm sick of reading articles on the main tech magazines that insist on reviewing Windows RT as a OS that should run Windows legacy applications to make it a success. (like one I've read now on PC World).

It's not rational, it's not logical, it's a massive movement that must have a "Judas" to point the finger to, it's about a culture (north American) that needs someone to be the blamed.

I just can't understand why the fact that Windows RT doesn't run Windows legacy applications is a problem.

Does iPad runs all Machintosh applications ???
Does Android Tablet runs desktop applications ?

It's a tablet !.. a T-A-B-L-E-T !

Do you want to run Photoshop, CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator in a Tablet ?  Maybe  SQL Server, Power Director or other video professional editor, Adobe Acrobat Creator !!??
This is not what a Tablet was made for.

but think about this...... woooowwwwww... it's a Tablet, but can still run OFFICE !!, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook and OneNote. Not a limited iWork, but Office !!!

Even being a Tablet, it has a desktop UI for those who can't live without it.

What a f......awesome Tablet !

That's the way Windows RT tablet should be perceived and reviewed.

  1. You're right.

The only problem with windows RT is the name. They made a stupid mistake to put windows in the name of the OS.

  2. Anonymous above is right. When you have seen windows for the past 25 years, there is an expectation attached to that name. Asking why Windows RT should run windows legacy applications is like asking why an airplane should fly or why a horse should run. Windows by its name implies it runs your legacy apps. Microsoft had so many other options to name that OS. They could have named it Non-Windows RT or Windows Jr. Name it something where people are not fooled into thinking it is something which it is not. I am not trying to bask Windows RT or Microsoft. I am a fan of both. But naming a camel a horse is not right.

  3. I like your reviews, very helpful. I think the reason people have qualms with windows rt not running legacy programs is that the windows store is still very lacking in the apps department, in comparison to iPads and android tablets.

Tablets use apps to compensate for not being able to run full fledged PC software, but when your app market is still not complete that's when you'll have people holding up their pitchforks and saying, well at least let us be able to run our legacy programs then.

    1. Hey Ahmed, first of all, thanks for your comment. I agree with you, but would like to have a list of which important apps that is available on iPad, is missing on Windows Store (that reached 100,000 apps a few days ago). Do you know some ? I want to write a post about it, but confess I don't know what apps are missing. Thanks again dude !
